In case of an electric outage
Have the following on hand:
Report your address to NWE and when the power went off.
Never operate a generator unless it is connected correctly by an electrician.
If you need electricity immediately for life sustaining equipment, call 911.
- If you have small children, put covers on all electric outlets and keep all cords wrapped as short as possible and out of reach.
- Keep electric appliances safely away from sources of water.
- Don’t overload electric outlets.
- Do not leave portable electric heaters unattended.
- Change batteries in smoke alarms at least annually.
- Never operate a generator indoors.
Outdoor
- Do not fly kites near overhead lines.
- Don’t climb trees near power lines.
- Never use ladders near overhead lines of any kind.
- Never dig anywhere until you have called Diggers Hotline at 800-242-8511 to have all utilities located.
- Never try to trim trees near overhead lines.
- If you ever see a downed power line, call NWE immediately. Never try to move a downed line of any type. Stay away.
- Never pile snow on our near electric equipment.
In case of an electric outage
Have the following on hand:
- Non-AC powered telephone.
- NWE contact info.
- NWE account number.
- Flashlights.
- Battery powered radio.
- Bottled water.
