New Construction

NWE is pleased to work with customers to make their new line extensions a smooth and effortless process. Please be aware that like many other industries, the electric utility industry is experiencing supply chain shortages and delays. Your new construction electric service may be subject to material availability.
If you are interested in extending electric service into your property (not transferring services) simply call NWE at 800-261-1200 or 715-463-5371 Ext. 119 to speak to a new construction representative. Once the information regarding the proposed location is defined, an NWE representative will prepare an estimated cost for a new line extension. If you wish to proceed simply submit an application for service along with the payment for the extension (if there is any) and NWE will work with your electrician to schedule the line extension and hookup.
NWE requires an easement on your property to allow us access for repair and maintenance of the new wires we will be installing. The easement document is available at our offices and should contain the legal description of your property (found on your warranty deed). This document needs to be signed and notarized. We have Notary Publics at our offices.

New Solar/Wind Construction
For Northwestern Wisconsin Electric (NWE) customers who are considering the addition of utility interconnected generation (solar or wind), the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (PSC) Chapter 119 specifies the requirements for the design and installation of the system as well as the process of interconnecting to the electric utility. Customers should have their installing contractor submit the appropriate Standard Distributed Generation Application Form and the Distributed Generation Interconnection Agreement to NWE. NWE will review these materials and notify the installing contractor when the requirements for interconnection are met in accordance with PSC 119.
For interconnected systems that qualify, the metering at the customer’s existing electric service will be done on a Net Meter basis in accordance with NWE’s tariffs as filed with the WI PSC. NWE works with installing contractors for proper (safe) installation of these systems. NWE is not involved in the design, installation, economic analysis or incentives of these systems. This information should be obtained from a qualified consultant or contractor.
